Hmm ... so I break my rule the very first day. Remember?? A blog a day keeps the psychiatrist away. Yeah … that is a rule which needs to be followed, well, at least by the preacher!!
Anyways, rules are meant to be broken and especially in a country like ours, they are meant to be bent, looped-around and made a mockery of so what's the big deal? Actually, there was an important reason why I did not come up with a post yesterday. As soon as I sat on the office computer and opened a new blank Word document (God bless Bill Gates), to my amazement, someone stopped me. It was ... ummm ... my conscience. (Well yes, I also have one).
It told me not to waste my office resources which I guess include a computer, a decent speed net connection, an AC (bloody which remains shut for majority of the day) and more than that, 8 man hours as they call it here.
“Surely “, it said to me, "you can't waste your time sitting in your company office writing a blog. So what if you've entered the last month of your association (They call me an associate … nice term) with the company, you must still stride towards the vision of the company ". I said, “Wtf!??”. It continued, “Shut up!! After all, you get paid by your company not for doing something that pleases you but something that pleases your company or better still, its customers.” The fact that not even a single customer of my company knows my name or even knows that I exist is worth mentioning here. Well, as crappy as it sounds, you cannot help but be touched and deeply moved by the argument and so, you say to yourself,” what am I doing? I can surely do better for my company so what if the company doesn't care about me; at least I should do my best. I felt as if my eyes had been opened ... so I decided not to spend my precious office time blogging.
Keeping in mind the interests of my employer, I thought that I will not misuse my company’s resources (at least for one day … my conscience gets frustrated very easily … and see it didn’t even try to stop me today) so instead, I decided to misuse my friends’. I took his bike along with him to a small ride to the nearest market to enjoy a sumptuous Vanilla ice-cream shake. Quite aptly, I thought, the bike was an LML Freedom, symbolic of the feeling you get driving it on busy city roads with your company ID tucked away in your pocket knowing that you were supposed to be on your seat or in your cubicle as it is now. A world class driver that I am … hehee… the experience was even more fun!!
This reminds me of one irritating little thing …ask any employee of any damn company, he’ll tell you that the ID card which is supposed to be around your neck all the time is the most embarrassing part of their job. It keeps giving you that bonded labor feeling but you cannot do anything but keep it that way and mind you, if the card gets stolen it costs some decent money to be remade.
Anyways, the short trip lasted for 2 hrs and by the time we came back to office, it was 5:45 … time to drag your a** back to your home in the company cab, for some reason, the time of day that I enjoy the most!! Maybe because I sleep right through it but then someone has very rightfully said:
“Your life depends on your dreams”
So what are you thinking, just go and enjoy a sound sleep.
Cheers!!
